I have always loved using little coin pouches. They are so handy for organizing small items in your handbag, especially coins and house keys. I wanted to design one such little purse that would be a quick yet fun sewing project and one that could be used by kids and adults alike. That’s how the Citron Purse sewing pattern came to be! The Citron Purse is a perfectly sized mini pouch that is incredibly versatile and can be utilized according to your own personal needs and style. Also, since its a zippered purse, it’s easy to seal and carry, whether you are putting it in a suitcase, in your main purse, or using it as a mini wallet. The Citron Purse is fully lined and has no raw edges.

The Citron Purse makes a great portable and impromptu wallet and even works as a key chain wallet for short trips to the store. Instead of carrying your whole purse with you on trips out of the house, you can go compact and take this little cutie instead. The Citron Purse can be utilized for a lot of purposes – First Aid kit, on-the-go cosmetics, treasure keeper for a small child, etc. It is the perfect size for a roll of poop bags and car keys. Clip it to your dog’s leash, your belt loop or make an extra long fabric tether and wear it around your hips!

The Citron Purse makes a cute and creative project for using up precious fabric and interfacing scraps. Since this project is so itty-bitty and made up of several scraps of fabric, you can create it for extra cheap out of the scraps you have collected over the years. The fun part is choosing different coordinating fabrics. Be warned, it is hard to stop at one!

The Citron Purse is available in two shapes: Boxy and Curvy! The Curvy Citron Purse was the first design I had come up with and made it to look like a lemon (hence the name ‘Citron’). I had envisioned making it in a yellow lemony vinyl with cute little leaves for tabs, however due to the lock down, I had to use what was available in my stash. Luckily, this project is a great scrap buster and uses minimal hardware! The Boxy Citron Purse was added later on to provide a unisex option. The men need some organizers for their stuff too, right?!!

Now to make the pattern unique and also to provide a little better organization option, like in all my other patterns, I decided to add an additional smaller zipper compartment. In the pattern, instructions are provided to make the Citron Purse in two different styles!

Style 1: Single zippered purse with one large compartment that is perfect for carrying small items, such as, coins, keys, jewelry, charging cables, earphones, USB flash drives, candies, small cosmetics, sewing supplies, small toys and other little things; and

Style 2: Double zippered purse with one large and one small compartment. The small compartment can hold cash, memory cards, credit/debit cards, membership cards, business cards, etc.

Double zippered option – Boxy Citron Purse

The double zippered option is not very easy to photograph as the zippers are on opposite sides of the purse. A few of my testers who were kind enough to test the pattern for me also made some vlogs to showcase the different styles and came up with different creative ways to use the Citrons!

These little Citron pouches are fun to make, are quickly assembled and make great little gifts any time of year. It’s a great idea to put them in stockings, include them with birthday presents, and more. You can even hide some money in the coin purse as an added gift! This little sewing project works perfectly as a key chain and is great to make for a friend on-the-go! So…grab some scraps and start making little Citrons for yourself and for your loved ones!
